That’s a strange concept for us isn’t it: “There is nothing that we are not”. I mean, how can I be the coffee cup in front of me, the keyboard that I’m typing on, or seat that I am sitting on and be myself too. “That’s just not possible” the Ego voice says in my head. Of course, the Ego would have us all believe that we are really separate. In separation we can stand out. Be better (or worse) than those around us. In separation we can distance ourselves from what others are doing and not become involved should we choose not to. In our physical world, that’s not necessarily such a bad thing at times. There are times when we choose not to engage with others because of the “space” they’re in at the time. The key there is discernment rather than judgement, with the former being respectful to both parties and the latter being judgemental. The former coming from the Soul and the latter coming from the Ego.
You see, the challenge we so often have is that we view our life, the lives of others, and the world around us from the perspective of the Ego. That we are all separate. That some bits are better than others. That life can be tough and dangerous, and that we have to fight to get anywhere or “keep our head above water”. Tiring isn’t it! What if there were an easier way?
What if I were to tell you there is… but it’ll take a huge amount of trust to live it. The answer to life is to surrender. To put our hands up to the flow of the Universe and say “OK, I surrender. I let go. I trust”. Interestingly not necessarily “I give up”. Although, of course, it depends upon what you’re giving up! If you’re giving up anger, resentment, attachment, pride – then that’s great! If you’re giving up completely and going into a state of depression – not so helpful!
So how do we surrender and learn to trust? I think each and every one of us will find his or her own way to do this, but you might like to try recognising who and what you really are. Divine Source (or “The All That Is” is a phrase I enjoy) creates everything. Everything comes from Divine Source. Divine Source is within everything. There is nothing that Divine Source is not – which is a reason why I like the term “The All That Is”. Call it God, Buddha, Allah, Holy Father/Mother, Source Energy, I Am Presence, or anything else you choose. Divine Source won’t mind :-) There is no right or wrong… there just is.
So we have this All That Is then… how would you describe it? Wonderful? Marvellous? Powerful? Beautiful? Unconditionally Loving? Blissful? Bountiful? Graceful? Peaceful? Quite a few words there with the word “full” at the end. No matter how you describe it, you know and trust that Divine Source is “full” of these wonderful qualities. And… so too are you! Yes that’s right. Remember, if Divine Source is in everything (which it is), it must be in you. And if everything that the Divine Source creates is just an extension of itself (which it is) then all the qualities that It is, are also in you. Say it “I am wonderful”. Do you believe? “I am wonderful”. Part of you may well believe it, but if you’re struggling to, that’ll be the Ego holding you back. “I am wonderful”.
“I am”. Powerful words that, in one way, refer to a separate individual (which we’ve already discussed is really an illusion). In another way “I Am” is just another way to describe The All That Is. So “I am wonderful” also means Divine Source (or whatever word you use) is wonderful. There is nothing that is not Divine Source, and so you, and I, must also be wonderful.
When we start to recognise the stunningly, beautiful, wonderful, gorgeous, and delicious Divine Source within us, we begin to understand that we are powerful creators. That everything we need is always, always, provided for us. That all we need to do to create a joyful, peaceful, loving, abundant life – is to surrender to who we really are. Trust the Divine Source within, and identify with the Divine Source in everything else. When we surrender to that concept, there is nothing we cannot be, do, have, or create.
